Tailgate Foot Activation Kit

This is the installation guide for Tesla Model 3 Tailgate Foot Activation Kit for the Electric Tailgate from Tesla Offer.

Installation

There are two ways to install the foot sensor. If your Model 3 is post July 2019, then check if you can see a small cover plate under the bumper. Jump to Method 2 if you have this rectangular cover

Method 1 - Install the sensor by removing the bumper

Step 1 - Remove the Tail lights

First, remove the two taillights. Remove the big plastic screw cover on the top of the tail lights.

Behind the tail lights, there is a connector and 2 8mm bolts. Remove the 2 8mm bolts and the connector.

Step 2 - Removal the bumper

Remove the 10mm bolt in the indicated location on both side.

There's a T-25 screws on each side of the bumper behind the wheel. Pull out the cover and unscrew the screw.

Remove all the 10mm bolts that holding the bumper. There's two bolts on each side, and 4-5 10mm bolts in the center part. Two of them are inside the cover that you need to pry out.

Step 3 - Run the wires to the bumper area

Inside the trunk area, remove the lower trim piece. Pry out the push pins. Look for the blue plastic cap in the right side.

Step 4 - Placing the sensor

After all of these are removed, you can pull out the bumper. you don't need to remove the bumper. Just loosen it so you can stick the foot sensor. Place the sensor in the indicated location. Connect the wire that you fished down. Install the bumper back in place. Before you install all the screws, try testing the sensor first.

Step 5 - Connect the sensor to the system

On the other end of the wire in the trunk area, connect the pink connector to the connector from the trunk system. You can now test the foot sensor.

Method 2 - Install the foot sensor for post July 2019 Model 3

Step 1 - Remove the small cover plate

Use a large flathead screwdriver to rotate the two screws of the plate 90 degrees. Remove the cover

Step 2 - Run the wires to the bumper area

Inside the trunk area, remove the lower trim piece. Pry out the push pins. Look for the blue plastic cap in the right side.

Step 3 - Placing the sensor

Stick the sensor in the indicated location. Install the cover back.

Step 4 - Connect the sensor to the system

On the other end of the wire in the trunk area, connect the pink connector to the connector from the trunk system. You can now test the foot sensor.
